Welcome to 2nd grade at Valley Point Elementary School!  My name is Jocelyn Tow, and I will be your child's teacher this year.  This is my 4th year teaching and my first year at VPE!  I am so excited to be part of such a welcoming community!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  In 2008, I graduated from Sonoraville High School as the valedictorian of the first inaugural class.  I then attended Shorter University where I was very involved on campus.  I was President of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society, a member of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education, and a member of Epsilon Sigma Christian Sorority.  I graduated from Shorter University in May of 2012 from the Academy of Aristeaus (Honors Program) with a 4.0 and received my Bachelor's Degree in the field of Early Childhood Education.  I am certified to teach Pk-5, Special Education General Curriculum and Adapted Curriculum (Pre-K-5), ESOL, and Middles Grades Reading.  This makes me highly qualified to teach your child!

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  As an only child, I have a very close relationship with my parents and grandparents.  I attend South Calhoun Baptist Church, where I have been a member for the past 14 years.  For the past 3 years, I have been the director of the children’s church program, and it has been a blessing to be able to teach 3 through 8 year olds. Some of my hobbies include reading, listening to the latest contemporary Christian music, and playing with my 2 dogs and 2 cats.  During school vacations, I enjoy spending time in Santa Rosa Beach, FL.

I am so excited to have your child in my class this year.  My goal is to create a positive learning environment where your child will have fun learning.  I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and spiritually.  It is my desire, as an educator, to provide engaging, meaningful instruction that supports curiosity, risk-taking, and the sharing of ideas in order for students to realize their fullest potential as active learners.  I have high expectations for each and every one of my students.  I believe all students can learn if given the appropriate tools and motivation.  My goal is to encourage and motivate my students to believe in themselves so they will have the confidence to aspire to be successful life-long learners and valuable, compassionate members of society.

Please feel free to contact me anytime via your child's communication folder or agenda, the school telephone hotline at 706-277-3259, or by emailing me at  I will do my best to respond as soon as possible.  If you need to see me for a conference, please remember to make an appointment so we may talk without interruptions, and I can give you my full attention.  Together, we can help your child have a successful learning experience in second grade.  I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
